Huge concern over donkeys found on 'horrific site' in south Donegal

Donegal Donkey Sanctuary are determined to find out how this rescued donkey is missing both of her ears
Donegal Donkey Sanctuary rescued two donkeys from a farm recently after they were discovered in a horrific condition.
The rescue raced down to south Donegal on Sunday morning last after a report was made about two donkeys.
“We were horrified to find two mares in unbelievable condition. Both donkeys had seriously overgrown hooves and had obviously been attacked by crows,” Donegal Donkey Sanctuary said in an update on GoFundMe.
The sanctuary said that one of the mares was shockingly missing her ears.
“Just the most horrific site. Her companion was in even worse condition as she was much weaker and had been completely unable to fend off the crows. She had three open wounds on her body where the crows had been eating her as she lay helplessly enduring extreme pain,” the rescue said.
Both donkeys were living on a farm and the owners were not forthcoming as to how the first donkey had lost her ears, according to the sanctuary.
“We are very grateful to the Gardai and the vet who ensured that we were able to remove the donkeys from these premises.
“Both will need extensive veterinary treatment if they are to survive. Please help in any way that you can. No donation is too small”.
The donkey sanctuary in Donegal recently posted a video of one of the rescued mares with no ears to their social media in an update following the rescue.
The rescue said that the donkey, named Madeleine, had a good nights rest with plenty to eat and is content and happy in herself since arriving at the rescue.
The rescue is determined to figure out how she lost both of her ears and they have thanked people in the community for all of their support.
