A documentary is set to air on RTÉ Lyric about the career of a Donegal-born percussionist this weekend.
“Dancing to a Different Drum” is about Éamonn Cagney, who is originally from Clooney in the Portnoo area, Ireland's premier hand-drum percussionist. He is a composer, touring musician, and music educator.
The documentary, produced and narrated by JJ O’Shea, will air on Lyric FM's Lyric Feature this Sunday, October 25, at 6 pm.
He is currently performing and touring with renowned Pulitzer and multi-Grammy award-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens, and has collaborated and performed with Congolese master-guitarist and composer Niwel Tsumbu for over 20 years.
He can currently be seen on TG4 and BBC2 playing and composing with Liam Ó Maonlaí on the music series Cumasc: Séisiúin sa Black Gate.
The RTÉ Lyric feature “Dancing to a Different Drum” focuses on Éamonn’s own original music. He talks about his original album Convergence, his live music and folktale show Young Conall of Howth, original pieces including An Grianán featuring fiddler Zoe Conway, and his many recordings with Niwel Tsumbu.
