Cllr Dakota Nic Mheanman told at the recent Lifford-Stranolar MD meeting that signs are necessary for the Ballybofey housing estate, as children in the area are commonly on bikes

A request has been made for signage in a newly built social housing estate in Ballybofey following residents' complaints of speeding.

Cllr Dakota Nic Mheanman made the request for more signage in housing estates in the Twin Town area, with extra emphasis on the Coill an Airgid housing estate, following concerns from residents.

“Residents have said they’ve noticed a lot more speeding recently. I know there are raised tables, but they’re easily avoidable,” the Sinn Féin councillor said, “you can get around them easily.”

The 27-year-old councillor said that residents in the area have revealed that taxis in particular are “flying down the hill.”

Cllr Nic Mheanman explained that there is usually a number of children out on bikes in the area, and signs to warn motorists are necessary.

Cathaoirleach of the MD, Cllr Patrick McGowan, agreed with Cllr Nic Mheanman, saying that the current speed ramps in place are not adequate for slowing motorists.

The social housing estate was just officially completed in July of this year.
