Donegal has had snowfall already this week, with more forecast to come today

As the cold stretch continues into early spring, Met Éireann are expecting more of the same today, with temperatures again dipping beneath freezing later tonight

Met Éireann are predicting sleet and snow to fall later tonight as the cold snap in the north-west continues.

Show fell at the beginning of the week and with the temperatures still very low, more is expected later.

"Very cold to begin today and largely dry in the north of the province this morning," Met Éireann have warned. "Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow will move in from the south and extend to most parts through the day, though the coastal northwest may stay dry. This will lead to poor visibility and hazardous road conditions. Highest temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees with moderate to fresh east to northeast winds.

"Cold and breezy at first tonight with falls of sleet and snow giving rise to poor visibility and hazardous road conditions. The sleet and snow will gradually clear eastwards overnight. Lowest temperatures of -4 to -1 degrees, with northerly winds easing light and variable by dawn."
