McGrory’s hotel in Culdaff is set to reopen under new ownership after it closed its doors suddenly in February after more than 100 years in business.

Local businessman Paddy Doherty has taken over the hotel, which has been famous as a music venue over the years with its renowned Backroom venue hosting legendary musicians over the years including Rodney Crowell, Townes Van Zandt, Peter Green, Guy Clark and Cassandra Wilson and Femi Kuti.

A post on the hotel’s Facebook page said the business has been taken over by Mr Doherty, “who hails from the Glackin Clan”.

“Alongside his wife Orla, Paddy brings a deep-rooted love for Irish culture, traditional music, and the Irish language to everything they do.

“Paddy and Orla are passionate about preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Inishowen - not just here at home, but across Ireland and beyond. Under their stewardship, McGrory’s will continue to be a beacon for music, hospitality, and the unique spirit of this special place.

“We look forward to welcoming you to McGrory’s - for great music, good food, warm company, and a true taste of Donegal.”
