Conditional planning permission granted for new trail to the stunning O'Rourke's Table in Leitrim

Conditional planning permission has been granted for the construction of a new walking trail to access O'Rourke's Table just outside of Dromahair.
As part of the planning application to Leitrim County Council a Natura Impact Statement was prepared. The application was originally submitted to Leitrim County Council in September 2, 2021 and conditional approval was secured earlier this month.
The project includes the upgrade of parts of the existing trail as well as the decommissioning of a section of the existing trail and works to restore this to its natural state.
The development also calls for the construction of a viewing platform along the trail to take advantage of the beautiful views. Lying only 4.1km north of Dromahair, the plateau hill is one of the ‘hidden gems’ of North Leitrim.
The top of the walkway currently gives access to an amazing view over Lough Gill, Parkes Castle and, in the distance, Knocknarea with Queen Maeve’s rocky tomb.
As part of the recently approved application there are also plans to construct a new car parking area and to also erect livestock fencing and signage and all ancillary works along the trail.
