Gardaí in Leitrim arrested four suspects and recovered a range of items earlier this week

Gardaí have revealed the haul of stolen goods recovered during an operation in Leitrim last week.

Carrick on Shannon gardaí arrested four people under Operation Táirge in the town on Tuesday.

Operation Táirge is a national initiative aimed at combatting organised retail crime.

On Tuesday, gardaí received a call about an attempted theft that had occurred in a local retail unit. As part of the garda response, they stopped and searched a van in Dromod.

A short time after gardaí received a call about an incident of attempted theft at a local retailer, they intercepted a van in Dromod. The four people travelling in the van were arrested and a large amount of stolen property was recovered.

"It's believed that this organised retail crime gang set off from Dublin and that the recovered property had been stolen earlier that day from various retail outlets in Cavan town," a garda spokesperson said.

The two males and two females ranging in age from 23 to 33 years were interviewed by Gardaí in Carrick on Shannon, Ballymote and Sligo Garda Stations.

All four people have now been charged and are before the courts, gardaí have confirmed.
