Should Carrick-on-Shannon estates be serviced by a school bus?

Councillor Sean McGowan is calling on Bus Éireann School Transport Section and the Department of Education to look at providing a school transport service within the estates and urban areas of Carrick -on-Shannon that will serve Scoil Mhuire NS.
Cllr McGowan said the morning and pickup situation at the primary school situated on the N4 in town can be “choc a bloc.”
He said if Bus Eireann were to collect children from around the estates this could remove all the cars from the traffic pile-up and “be good for the environment.”
Cllr Enda Stenson said that children with their parents could walk and cycle to school. Cllr Paddy Farrell supported the motion and Cllr Des Guckian said he supported the motion to see what the response from Bus Eireann would be.
Council Engineer Darragh O’Boyle said the Active Travel schemes are put in place to “encourage everyone to walk and cycle to school.” A letter is being sent to Bus Eireann and the Department of Transport on the issue.
