Busy road for Kilkenny commuters reopens after long closure

Bus services have also been reinstated by Kilkenny bus service JJ Kavanagh
Abbey Road in Ferrybank on the Kilkenny-Waterford border has fully reopened to the public after a prolonged period of closure that caused major disruptions to traffic flow in the area.
The road was originally meant to reopen before the start of the school term however an extension was required to facilitate essential works for a deep foul sewer, new retaining wall and finishing works.
Bus services have been reinstated by JJ Kavanagh and vehicular access to school drop-off facilities will be available from Fountain Street and Abbey Road.
The works have delivered a new realigned section of Abbey Road with increased capacity.
It is hoped that the works will facilitate alternative modes of transport for local commuters.
A direct access to the new South-East Greenway will also be created.
