The Office of Public Works (OPW) has announced the approval of Kilkenny County Council’s application for funding under the Office of Public Works’ Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme for the King’s River in Callan.

Under the scheme, the OPW has approved additional funding of €82,782 (including VAT) for the installation of a new pumping facility at KCAT car park and decommissioning an existing pump.

The proposed works include constructing a 900mm diameter overflow pipe and installing three pumps (duty/standby and 1 diesel pump), in addition to a new pressure main and providing a barrier system to prevent flooding of the yard area. For Bridge Street, the installation of a chamber and IPP for eight affected properties is proposed.

This brings the total funding of this project to €151,785.
