Kilkenny author releases her much-anticipated second book

The new Popper Monster book ‘Magical Lunch Adventure’ is out now!
Eleanor Geoghegan, a Kilkenny author, has recently released her second much anticipated ‘Popper Monster’ children’s book.
This second ‘Magical Lunch Adventure’, which is all about shapes, includes all of the things that children loved about the first book such as the interactive rhyming text, the fun repetition to read aloud and Popper Monster’s playful animal friends.
The ‘magic stick’ is also back and this time making lots of funny shaped Monster foods to fill ‘a mumbling, grumbling monster belly’.
And little readers will meet a special new character in this adventure, Popper Monster’s amazing side kick, ‘Dino Jay’.
Dino Jay has ‘5 extra noses on a whirling, twirling tail’ - which makes him an expert at sniffing out shapes.
Eleanor created the Popper Monster book series back in April 2022 and her first book all about the colours of the Rainbow has reached bookshops and libraries nationwide making ‘Popper Monster’ a firm family favourite.
In 2023, it became part of a limited number of children’s books to be printed in big book format especially for schools and this big book edition also comes with a free lesson plan/activity guide.
Eleanor wrote the ‘Popper Monster’ books to engage children with sensory difficulties but they are suitable for all children at a
preschool and infant class level.
Eleanor is a primary school teacher and mum to two children with autism who were the inspiration behind her books.
Eleanor wanted to dedicate a moment in time to her children whilst also creating a book series that teaches first concepts and new ideas in a fun and engaging way.
When writing the books, Eleanor wanted to include some of the important elements that helped her children engage with reading.
The ‘Popper Monster’ books are full of lots of interactive rhyming text and lyrical phrasing which create a sensory flow in the language to enhance morphemical learning and understanding.
The books are also a great aid for intraverbals with their repetition and interactive elements.
Eleanor chose to print the books on a silk paper stock to enhance the texture of the paper and each of the 36 full colour pages are full of vibrant and fun visuals.
The sequel, ‘Magical Shape Lunch Adventure’ is again beautifully illustrated by Ukrainian/French illustrator Helena Crevel and she once again brought Eleanor’s vision perfectly to life.
Eleanor enjoys doing book festivals, school workshops and readings throughout the year and the support for ‘Popper Monster’ has been overwhelmingly positive.
Eleanor loves getting to meet ‘Popper Monster’ fans whenever she can and hearing all about their favourite monster foods.
She displays their fantastic artwork and drawings on her social media pages and website - poppermonster.com
Check out the website for lots of information about upcoming ‘Popper Monster’ book events and visits.
Both of Eleanor’s books are available on her website and in all good bookshops nationwide as well as fantastic local bookshops Khans Books, The Book Centre, Bargain Books and Mctivities Sensory Toy Shop.
The big book edition for schools is currently also available directly on her website.
Eleanor is looking forward to meeting more Popper Monster fans at the upcoming local ‘Town of Books Festival’ in Graignamanagh next month where she will be signing books at the Barrow Valley Activities Hub and looks forward to seeing you all there.
