Submissions sought for Alternative Kilkenny Arts festival

An information evening will be held this Thursday
AKA (Alternative Kilkenny Arts) is a grassroots celebration of independent voices, emerging talent and Kilkenny’s thriving arts and culture scene which takes place across the city and county from August 6 to 16.
Submissions are currently being sought for the volunteer-led community arts festival, which brings a robust programme of events across the city and county for 11 days in August.
The Alternative Kilkenny Arts (AKA) Festival is a festival expanding access to culture across County Kilkenny.
Delivered by a dedicated committee, AKA provides an open and inclusive platform for artists and community groups to share work, connect with audiences and celebrate creativity.
The committee are calling on artists from all genres to consider submitting work for this year’s festival.
If you are an artist, writer, poet, musician, storyteller, acrobat – then the team at AKA would love to hear from you.
The AKA festival programme of fringe events embraces new ideas and bold creative expression and the festival committee want to involve all art forms across Kilkenny City and county.
Information sessions to see what’s involved and how to make a submission will take place from 6.30pm to 8pm at the Thomastown Community Hall on Marshes Street in Thomastown on May 7 and at St Canice’s Neighbourhood Hall, St Joseph’s Road, in Kilkenny on May 14.
With over 100 participating artists each year, AKA, which is run by a voluntary team, encourages collaboration, cultural exchange and public engagement.
Submissions for this year’s AKA festival are now open until Monday, May 25 and late submissions will not be accepted.
AKA is a listing festival which means that sourcing a venue, arranging insurance and securing funding for your exhibition or event is the responsibility of the artist.
The AKA programme of events will be launched in July. AKA is supported by Kilkenny County Council, Kilkenny Arts Office and Artist Connect.
