The main talking points as Lisdowney lose out in Leinster Intermediate Final

Rathnure 0-24 Lisdowney 1-16
MAIN MAN
Jack Redmond (Rathnure)
The Rathnure centre forward was the undoubted star on show in Chadwicks Wexford Park on Sunday as he scored six points from play in a man of the match display. The elusive attacker was always showing for the final and with great confidence and skill, he gave the Lisdowney defence a torrid time. Even when the game was in the melting pot, he was the one to stand up as he drove his side to a first ever Leinster Intermediate crown.
TURNING POINT
While the Wexford side ran out good winners in the end, there was a stage at the start of the second half where Lisdowney looked like they were beginning to get on top. Helped by a goal from Richard McEvoy and subsequent points by Brian Kavanagh and Liam Dunphy, the North Kilkenny outfit had opened up a four point lead but crucially their opponents hit back to grab four points in as many minutes to ensure parity before kicking on inside the final 10 minutes.
Top Score
Lisdowney’s goal was a real standout moment as Brian Kavanagh set up Richard McEvoy who blasted a shot past Kyle Martin and into the net.
TALKING POINT
The clock may have just turned to the month of December but you wouldn’t have realised it watching this game as it was an end to end tussle that made little of the time of the year and both sets of players should be commended for producing such an entertaining contest.
WHAT NOW?
Rathnure now march on to an All-Ireland semi-final with Galway and Connacht champions Tynagh-Abbey/Duniry on December 14/15 while for Lisdowney it’s the end of the road on what has been a very successful season after winning the Kilkenny IHC crown.
