Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has confirmed the increase for most vehicles will come into effect next year

The cost of the toll on the Thomas Francis Meagher Bridge in Waterford is set to increase next year.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has confirmed that a 10 cent increase for most vehicles will come into effect on January 1, 2027.

This increase will apply to cars, motorcycles, buses and small lorries.

From January, it will cost €2.40 to cross the bridge by car, whilst bus companies will face a fee of €4.30.

Meanwhile, the cost of the toll for heavy goods vehicles with two or three axles will increase by 20 cent.

For heavy goods vehicles with four or more axles, the increase will be 30 cent.

The toll for those two categories of heavy vehicles will now stand at €6.10 and €7.80 respectively.

These increases apply to all of the country's Public-Private Partnership (PPP) toll roads, except for the M3 Clonee to Kells toll, which will remain unchanged.

The M50 and the Dublin Port Tunnel are among the most used roads that will see toll increases.

TII said that the toll prices are regulated through an inflation adjustment mechanism as set out in the Toll Bye-Laws.

Income from the tolls is used to fund the operation and maintenance of the national roads network.
