Cllr Frank Quinlan outlined the change being proposed for Vincent White Road in Waterford city

A new two-way cycle lane is being proposed as part of an Active Travel scheme in Waterford city.

The lane is being proposed on the inside of the footpath on Vincent White Road as part of the Lismore Park, Lisduggan and Larchville Accessible Neighbourhood Project.

Fine Gael councillor Frank Quinlan outlined the change in a recent post on social media.

In a post on Facebook, Cllr Quinlan wrote: “What is included here is improvement to footpaths, pedestrian crossings and a two way cycle path off road as the road is narrow and extremely busy for cyclists to use.

“The new and improved walking and cycling route would make the routes to schools and key destinations safer to use.

“There is a misconception and misunderstanding by some people about the removal of trees in the area which is not the case.”

He concluded by saying that the Active Travel scheme will enhance the quality of life and well-being of people in the local community.
