Waterford Bus Station to remain on South Quays amid confusion over Transport Hub

Waterford Bus Station will remain at its current location on the South Quays amid confusion over the new Transport Hub, a council meeting has heard.
The issue was raised by Fianna Fáil councillor Adam Wyse at the June plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council.
Cllr Wyse said: “I’ve heard reports about the bus station on the South Quays side not looking to move or not wanting to move from that location.
“Will the bus station be completely integrated into the Transport Hub on the north side?”
In response, Senior Engineer Seán Dobbs clarified that the bus station will remain on the South Quays.
Mr Dobbs said: “Just on the integration of the bus station on the South Quays, the bus station is staying on the South Quays and they are planning for works on the bus station.
“So the Bus Connects plan envisages an inter connecting hub on the South Quays for buses but Bus Connects does extend bus services to the train station on the North Quays.”
He went on to explain that bus services will serve the new train station on the North Quays.
“There will be bus stops directly outside the train station.
“I’m not sure of the details under Bus Connects but there is that facility for buses to stop directly outside the train station.
“That also includes inter-city buses so it’s not just local bus services, it is inter-city bus services.”
Mr Dobbs concluded by saying that the National Transport Authority (NTA) agrees that bus services must serve the North Quays.
“We have had that discussion with the National Transport Authority (NTA) and they are in agreement with us.
“The Transport Hub needs to be utilised as much as possible by bus services. That’s the whole point of having a Transport Hub, so they’re in agreement with us on that.”
