Aldershot ended a five-match losing streak against the Enterprise National League’s bottom club Gateshead with a 1-0 victory.

More than a month on from their last victory, Scott Davies’ side edged past opponents who have now lost 14 in 16 attempts this term.

The hosts took just five minutes to claim the advantage, Ollie Harfield carving things open with a through ball for Basil Tuma, whose shot was parried into Brody Peart’s path for a cool finish at the second attempt.

The lively Hakeem Sandah twice went close to doubling the lead, but Ben Williams was a whisker away from an equaliser just before the break, heading against a post.

Nick Hayes produced a point-blank save as Gateshead attacked from a corner and saved his side again in the 74th minute to deny Alex Lankshear before Jordy Hiwula flicked the woodwork to signal the end of Gateshead’s efforts.
