Oliver Glasner’s side had failed to score in their opening five games in all competitions this season at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest finally ended their home goalscoring drought when they took an early lead against Manchester City.

Forest fans had hardly been getting value for money at the City Ground under new boss Oliver Glasner as they failed to score in their opening five games in all competitions this season.

Few would have thought that when Morgan Gibbs-White put his side ahead against Bournemouth way back on May 24 that they would not celebrate a goal again until now.

But their 511-minute drought came to an end in the fifth minute of Saturday evening’s clash with City.

Perhaps typically, it came from an unlikely source as centre-back Jair Cunha robbed Josko Gvardiol high up the pitch, advanced into the area and slotted past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The goal was widely celebrated in the City Ground, with owner Evangelos Marinakis jumping out of his chair in the directors’ box.
