The celebrations kicked off on Saturday when Anne Kelly of the Lobster Pot Bar & Restaurant officially opened the 2025 Burtonport Festival. Previous to the opening on that evening, a youth and festival mass took place in St Columba’s Church, Acres, with Rev. Fr. Pat Ward, P.P., celebrating the mass.
A carnival parade took place with marching bands, vintage cars and floats from the Maple shop to the pier. Amongst the bands on parade were Crickamore, Mullaghduff, Maghery, Killaghtee and Dungloe Junior bands.
As for the float prizes, first place went to Donegal Sea Adventures and second place to the Port Gift Shop. On Sunday, the annual blessing of the boats took place, followed by music on the festival platform.
The festival continues until Saturday with an outdoor crab boil this evening, outdoor Concert with Bula Béag tomorrow, Lá Gaelach on Thursday and a special open-air concert on Friday by a Bruce Springsteen Tribute Band.
