A fundraiser took place in the Seven Arches Bar in Laghey to mark what would have been the 80th birthday of one of the village’s best known citizens, the late PJ Rooney. Llick on the arrows to see Philip Mulligan's photos:
The event was held on Saturday evening, October 4 with proceeds going to the Patients’ Comfort Fund in Donegal Community Hospital where PJ was cared for and where he passed away on January 10.

PJ was very well-known in Laghey and in the wider south Donegal area as the founder of family business Laghey Waste, as well as being a big supporter and driving force of his local Naomh Brid GAA Club.
This was reflected in the generosity of the business and farming community in donating auction lots and raffle prizes for the fundraising event. Top auction lots included a stay in New York, a rally experience, a home chef experience for up to 10 people with a number of food business vouchers also included, and many more travel, farming, shopping and other sought after items.
The raffle too had much to entice, with numerous vouchers and hampers, a smart tv and more.
Those in attendance enjoyed music and dancing to Country Roads.
