Kilkenny based Song Moo Kwan Ireland and its teams of 35 taekwondo fighters from Kilkenny, Roscrea, Nenagh and Killaloe travelled to Milan over the weekend and brought home the overall trophy, winning over teams from Italy, France and Germany.
The fighters competed in forms and in sparring winning a total of 39 medals, 11 Gold, 15 Silver and 13 Bronze.
The participants coming from Kilkenny Taekwondo Club, OSA premier Roscrea and Irish Taekwondo Academy in Ballina Killaloe flew over to Milan to compete at this International championship organised by UNITAM an Italian Taekwondo Association.
This achievement came after months of preparation and squad training in the Thurles facility under the coaching of Master Kevin Cole , Damien Madden and Kilkenny resident, Grandmaster Guy Jones, a 9th Dan Black belt, who has been supervising the activity of the group in Ireland and teaching at Kilkenny Taekwondo club since 2003.
