Due to overnight rain the Galway racing track has been deemed unfit for the rescheduled Tuesday meet

These were the selection and winners for the best dressed at Galway Races Student Race Day on Monday.

The students managed to come out in force and style even avoiding storms, cancellations and warnings for a great day out.

Love Island and Galway GAA star Fitzy and his partner Lola judged the suits and dresses on display whittling the crowd down to the top five men and women before picking the main winners with both going home with a €500 River Island voucher.

After Saturday’s postponement, officials have also deemed today’s race cancelled following on from the weather conditions over the past 12 hours.

A short statement from the IHRB said: "Following 12mm of rain overnight and rain continuing at present, the track at Galway is unfit for racing and the fixture scheduled for today has been cancelled."

Galway Races organisers confirmed on Thursday that there would be no racing on Saturday due to Storm Boelo.

They said: “Unfortunately due to Storm Boelo we have now implemented changes to our Bank Holiday Weekend Race Programme. As a result, no racing will take place on Saturday October 24.

National Hunt racing remained as scheduled on Sunday; with the National Hunt racing from Saturday held on Student Raceday on Monday and the Flat Racing transferred from Monday to the now cancelled Tuesday meet.

Michael Moloney CEO of Galway Races said the team were disappointed that Saturday and subsequently Tuesday’s racing didn’t go ahead but said its postponement was “the most responsible course of action”.

He said: “Over the past two days, we have carried out continuous assessments of the track and closely monitored the weather forecast. Following discussions with Shane Ryder, Clerk of the Course, we jointly agreed that racing could not proceed safely on Saturday due to Storm Boelo and the alerts around it. It was a difficult decision to make, but the safety and welfare of our jockeys, horses, racegoers and staff must always come first.

“We would like to thank everyone for their understanding, patience and support as we make these changes especially our industry partners. We now look forward to three great days of racing in Ballybrit as we close out our 2026 racing season. We look forward to welcoming racegoers back to Galway over the coming days.”
