Gardai are investigating an alleged assault by a group of men on a young woman at a commercial accommodation premises in Galway city.
The incident allegedly occurred around 9:30pm on Friday, October 23, when the woman – who was staying in the premises – was violently attacked by a number of men.
She is understood to have sustained injuries during the incident and was subsequently treated at University Hospital Galway (UHG).
Gardaí attended the scene of the incident, and the alleged victim is understood to have provided a statement in person at a Garda station last weekend.
A spokesman for An Garda Síochána said an investigation is ongoing.
“Gardaí responded to reports of an alleged assault that occurred at approximately 9:30pm at a premises in Galway on October 23, 2026,” he confirmed.
Management at the accommodation premises where the assault allegedly occurred disputed the details of the incident when questioned by Galway Live.
“We are surprised and concerned by the allegation outlined… and the description of the incident,” said a spokesman.
“Our assessment is that there was a single instance of accidental contact between two people. This does not support the description of an assault by a group of men.”
The spokesman added that he was unaware of the ongoing Garda investigation.
