Friends take on Mayo running challenge to support teenager battling cancer

A group of friends is preparing to take on a 30km running and cycling challenge around Westport and Croagh Patrick to support a 16-year-old boy from Co Galway who is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Chloe McCormack and her friends will participate in the Westport Sea2Summit challenge on Saturday, November 7, in honour of Eoin, from Dunmore, who was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin’s lymphoma in August.

The group hopes to raise funds to ease the financial burden on Eoin and his family as he continues his treatment and works towards returning to school.

Since his diagnosis, Eoin has faced months of medical appointments and treatment, while missing time with his schoolmates and friends. Thankfully, he is doing well, and his family and friends are determined to ensure he has as much support as possible during this challenging period.

Eoin hopes to return to his Leaving Certificate class at Dunmore Community School in January, and money raised will help with the costs associated with his return to education, including grinds and other expenses.

The fundraiser will also help ease the financial pressures that can accompany a cancer diagnosis, including travel to medical appointments, treatment-related costs and everyday household expenses.

Organised by Eoin’s family and friends, the challenge reflects their desire to rally around him and ensure he can focus on his health, recovery and spending time with those closest to him.

The original fundraising target of €3,000 has already been surpassed, with more than €3,365 raised so far.

The friends hope their efforts will help Eoin return to his normal routine, including attending school and playing sports with his friends.
