A Mayo councillor has welcomed the installation of designated pedestrian routes in two carparks in the centre of Castlebar.

The newly painted pedestrian routes are located in the Castle Street and Market Street car parks in Castlebar and were painted green earlier this week.

The Cathaoirleach of the Castlebar Municipal District, Cllr Ger Deere welcomed the installation of the new pedestrian routes having previously highlighted and campaigned for them to be delivered.

“Major improvements had been made to the two car parks recently but there was a serious safety issue for pedestrians using the car parks. Now with the bollards and defined coloured path ways it will be much safer for all,” he said.

The Fine Gael councillor also thanked Mayo County Council engineers and the outdoor staff for carrying out the work.
