Funding sought for new north Mayo-Knock airport bus service

Senator Mark Duffy has welcomed confirmation from the National Transport Authority that funding has been sought for a new public transport service connecting North Mayo to Ireland West Airport Knock, as part of the BusConnects plan.
Senator Mark Duffy has received confirmation from the National Transport Authority (NTA) that funding has been sought for a vital new public transport service that would significantly improve connectivity between North Mayo and Ireland West Airport Knock, while also providing a new link between Charlestown and Castlebar.
Speaking following this morning’s sitting of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Senator Duffy said:
“At this morning’s sitting of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, I raised the matter of the proposed new route that would connect Knock Airport with North Mayo. I am glad to confirm that the proposal has now been submitted to the Minister for Transport by the NTA and that funding has been sought in the upcoming Budget as part of the BusConnects plan.
“The proposed service would create a direct connection to Knock Airport for passengers travelling from Ballina, Foxford, Swinford and Charlestown. It would also provide a new shuttle service from Charlestown, serving the airport, Kilkelly and Kiltimagh before continuing on to Castlebar.
“The proposed service would operate six times daily in each direction, providing an important new public transport link for communities across North Mayo and Mayo more broadly.
“I am glad that the NTA has listened to the request I made at the last Oireachtas Committee meeting. I want to thank the NTA team for engaging constructively on this proposal, and I will continue to campaign for these essential transport services for the region,” he concluded.
