Limerick author to launch the ultimate love story

A NEWCASTLE West author will launch an homage to one “extraordinary couple” with what he confessed would be his last book.
A former University of Limerick professor, Patrick J Connor, will launch his ultimate book, ‘The Love of Ireland,’ on February 18, at the Red Door in Newcastle West.
A factual and comprehensive book, The Love of Ireland, tells the “great love story” of newspaper editor and Sinn Féin founder, Arthur Griffith, and his wife and soprano, Maude.
Unlike the usual lens through which history is viewed, Dr O’Connor’s book seeks to “redress that balance and recount the watershed period through the eyes of a great Irish woman, casting a uniquely revealing light on two of the most eminent Irish people of the century”.
Speaking of the great Irish woman, Dr O’Connor said: “I started digging then and, went through manuscripts and pre-eminently Maud Griffith's letters, which are very informative. She was a powerful woman, she’d be very formidable in her way, but still, she never had any public persona”.
