A GROUP of Limerick chefs are ready to represent the nation at the Culinary Olympics, set to take place in Stuttgart in February.

The event, held every four years, draws the best chefs from around the globe to showcase their skills in a fierce competition. It includes 1,800 participants from 67 nations judged by a team of 60.

The Limerick cohort, which will represent Ireland at junior and senior level, will be joined by other Irish chefs, led by Alan Fitzmaurice, head chef at the Glasshouse Hotel in Sligo.

“Having two teams at the Culinary Olympics is a significant achievement for Ireland. I have really high hopes for both senior and junior teams though the competition will be exceptionally high – it really is the best in the world competing for the titles,” he said.

Limerick members of the junior team include; Nayara Borges da Costa, Anthony Rebote, Freddie Cullen, and Evan Duane, while Limerick members of the senior team include; Will King and Carol Dollery.

The competitions will be broadcast worldwide via IKA TV live stream.
