ONE LOCAL tennis club has been chosen winners of the Limerick County award in this year’s Texaco Support for Sport initiative.

Hospital Tennis Club has been presented with a €5,000 prize for use in the appointment of a new coach.

The new coach will provide a specialised coaching programme whose aim will be to expand club membership.

With a history that dates back to its foundation in 1927, Hospital Tennis Club is run entirely by volunteers.

Now in its third year, the Texaco Support for Sport initiative, organised by Valero Energy, sees a fund of €130,000 set aside annually for sports club winners to get €5k each on a county-by-county basis.

Previous Limerick winners were Fedamore GAA Club and Limerick Cricket Club, Adare. Entries for the 2024 initiative will open in the autumn.
