University of Limerick to appear before Public Accounts Committee again

Their property purchases are to be examined in detail
THE FINANCIAL statements of University of Limerick (UL) will be examined tomorrow morning (Thursday, May 9) by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
This comes in the wake of the €8 million purchase of the old Dunnes building in the city, as well as the purchase of the Rhebogue student village for €11.4 million.
The committee will also be examining the plans for a new student centre - expected to be finished this year at a cost of €30 million - this is a 50% increase on what was approved for it in the 2019 budget.
There will be representatives from UL including chancellor Brigid Laffan, deputy president and provost professor Shane Kilcommons, as well as officials from the Department of Further and Higher Education and the Higher Education Authority.
The committee will meet at 9.30am in the morning.
Cathaoirleach of the committee, Deputy Brian Stanley said: “The University of Limerick is a public research institution, which caters for 18,000 students for undergraduate and postgraduate studies across a range of disciplines.
“The Higher Education Authority provides State grant funding to the university.”
The meeting can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV here.
