Cashel-Tipperary LEA is seeing a surge in voters this evening after a slow start

There was a surge of voting in the Electoral Area this evening after a low turnout across the area earlier in the day.
Overall the trend was for a slightly higher turnout in urban areas rather than rural areas across the afternoon and early evening in Tipperary.
There are early indications of a good turnout of voters in Cashel town, the largest urban area with a plethora of candidates living locally across the Local Electoral Area.
In Cashel, at the Primary School booths, by 9am this morning their was a 4% turnout which rose to 9% by 11.15am. By lunchtime that had risen to 15% which became 21% by 3pm.
This evening a flurry of voters made their way to the booths with voting described as "brisk" as hopes are high of a good evening turnout with the absense of rain for the evening in the area.
Following the 9 to 5 surge voting was at 26% just after 5pm in Cashel and again rising to 32% by 6pm where the total on the register is 4,332.
Tipperary Town, which is where the bulk of candidates reside, was hot on the heels with 32% turnout by 6pm with voting said to be down on that across the surrounding villages.
