Gardaí in Tipperary intercepted two motorists during patrols around Clonmel on Thursday

Gardaí in Tipperary intercepted two motorists during patrols around Clonmel on Thursday, October 16 as part of ongoing road safety operations.

Tipperary Roads Policing Unit stopped a disqualified driver who was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drug and drink driving after failing a roadside test and testing positive for cannabis and amphetamines.

Gardaí described the individual as a "significant risk to other road users".

The matter is now before the courts.

A short time earlier, another motorist was detected by Garda Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology outside Clonmel for having no insurance.

Further checks revealed that the driver had never held a licence. That vehicle was seized, and the matter is also before the courts.
