Mountrath’s Reese Holohan has four rides on Sunday as he bids to overhaul the championship leader Sam Coen

Mountrath teenager Reese Holohan will head into Sunday's flat season finale at the Curragh with a major prize in his sights as he bids to become the 2026 Apprentice Jockey Champion.

Holohan is firmly in contention for the title after enjoying a breakthrough season in the saddle, with 24 winners to his name heading into the final meeting of the campaign. He currently sits second in the apprentice jockey standings, just two winners behind leader Sam Coen, who has ridden 26 winners. Paddy Hartnett occupies third place on 23 victories, meaning there is still plenty to play for at the Curragh.

The Laois teenager has four rides on Sunday, November 1, as he looks to overhaul Coen and finish the season at the top of the standings. His first assignment comes at 12.17 aboard Too Too Much, before he partners Gerrit's Gem at 12.52. He is then aboard San Aer at 2.02, with his final ride of the afternoon coming on Chica Guerrera at 3.12.

Coen also has three rides booked for the season finale, including two races in which he will go head-to-head with Holohan. The pair are both set to feature in the 12.52 and 3.12 races, with Coen's other ride coming at 3.47.

It has been a remarkable year for Holohan, whose biggest and most significant victory came during the Irish Champions Festival at Leopardstown in September. Riding for trainer Ger Lyons, the Mountrath jockey landed the Sovereign Path Premier Handicap aboard Krasimir, providing one of the standout moments of his season.

Now, with the flat season reaching its conclusion, Holohan has the opportunity to cap a memorable campaign by claiming the Apprentice Jockey Championship. Two winners separate him from Coen at the top of the standings, but with four rides to come on Sunday, the Laois teenager will be hoping to produce a final-day performance to remember.

All eyes will be on the Curragh as Holohan bids to bring the 2026 apprentice title back to Laois.
