The man appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court

A book of evidence is to be served next month on a man who is accused of murder in Laois.

Eugen Constantin (72) of 25 Church Street, Portlaoise, is accused of the murder of Adina Raluca Constantin at his address on July 5, 2026.

He appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court where Solicitor Brian Duffy came on record in place of Philip Meagher.

Mr Duffy explained to the accused that he would have to be in court for service of a book of evidence in November.

“I understand,” the defendant said.

Judge Tom MacSharry remanded the defendant in custody to appear before Portlaoise District Court on November 9 for service of the book of evidence.

Mr Duffy asked Judge MacSharry to assign legal aid in the case as there had been no application previously. Judge MacSharry assigned legal aid and remanded the man in custody to appear in person before the court on the next date.
