Speeding issues at north Longford village emerge

Local authority officials are to be pressed into installing further traffic calming measures in a north Longford village following a recent spate of road traffic collisions.
Drumlish village has, according to local Cllr Paraic Brady, been the scene of a number of road accidents over the past few months.
The latest, involving two cars at a crossroads in the village, took place last month in an incident which prompted the Fine Gael councillor to table a notice of motion at last week's meeting of Granard Municipal District.
Cllr Brady had initially sought additional measures to be put in place to address speeding concerns which, he said, was a “huge issue”.
The Fine Gael local politician said while he was satisfied by the promise that three new stop signs would be installed, further measures were still needed.
“I do welcome that (stop sign additions) but more has to be done,” he said, when addressing the response given at the meeting.
“There seems to be a real need for more to be done for the entire area of Drumlish in relation to speed and traffic calming.”
