Motorist in Offaly given hefty fine for driving without insurance
A defendant with an address in Banagher was convicted and fined €750 for driving with no insurance during the January 8 sitting of Tullamore District Court.
Arkadiusz Klekacz, Riverview House, Harbour Road, Banagher was stopped by a Garda on Moorpark Street, Birr on July the 28, 2024.
Garda Jonathan Kelly told the court that he was using a Mobility App on the day which “informed me that Mr Klekacz was driving without insurance.”
Sergeant Brendan Kearns told the court that Mr Klekacz had a number of previous convictions including no NCT cert, no driving licence and failing to produce his driving licence.
Mr Klekacz pleaded guilty to the no insurance offence, adding that he doesn't have a car anymore and therefore doesn't need insurance. He said he's an employee in Banagher Concrete.
“Are you satisfied that the defendant no longer has a car?” Judge Andrew Cody asked Garda Kelly.
“I haven't seen a car outside his house for quite some time,” replied the Guard. “Yes, I'm satisfied.”
The Judge sentenced as stated, adding “If you are caught with no insurance again you will be disqualified from driving for four years.”
