Guilty man who told Tullamore District Court he was 'shook up' by incident in Dromakeenan is asked by judge if he will 'shake a pocket up' and offer some money

A MAN must pay €1,000 compensation because of an assault on a work colleague in south Offaly last year.

Keith Quinlan (37), The Sycamores, Rochfortbridge appeared at Tullamore District Court and pleaded guilty to assaulting Jacub Wyszonirski at Dromakeenan, Birr on November 7, 2025.

Sergeant Brendan Kearns said the injured party was working on road maintenance and was punched by Mr Quinlan.

Mr Wyszonirski received soft tissue injuries and the incident was witnessed by the victim's father and there was also evidence from dash cam footage.

Sergeant Kearns said Mr Quinlan had a previous conviction dating from 2009 for drink-driving.

Addressing the court, Mr Quinlan apologised for what he had done and said he almost lost his job because of it.

“It really shook me up,” he said.

Judge Andrew Cody asked if he wished to make a tangible expression of his remorse.

“Would you like to shake a pocket up now and offer some compensation?” he asked.

Mr Quinlan said he was working for Highway Markings and had been put on probation for 12 months and sent on an anger management counselling course.

Judge Cody said the victim should get some compensation: “You need to show that you're sorry.”

He adjourned finalisation of the matter to November 11 next for €1,000 and if that is paid a one-month suspended sentence will be imposed.
