Popular parkrun in Offaly celebrates 400th event
‘We are really lucky at Mountlucas parkrun to have a wonderful team of volunteers, who row in and give back, to support this community event’
There were jubilant celebrations at Mountlucas parkrun at the weekend as participants and volunteers celebrated Mountlucas parkrun's 400th event.
125 people took part on the day by walking, jogging or running the 5km looped course, with a team of almost 20 volunteers working hard to coordinate a memorable and special milestone event.
BnM, one of the event sponsors, sponsored a number of rewards for volunteers and participants on the day, including a special finishers tshirt, freshly brewed tea and coffee, and hot breakfast treats. Despite the challenging weather conditions on the morning, there was an incredibly positive and energised atmosphere at the event.
Mairéad Scally, the Run Director, after the event, she said: "It was a pleasure to take on the role of Run Director for today's special event.
"We are really lucky at Mountlucas parkrun to have a wonderful team of volunteers, who row in and give back, to support this community event.
"We're so grateful to BnM today for helping up celebrate this milestone.
"It's really important to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and we're very appreciative of BnM for helping to thank them.
"The commemorative tshirt from today's event joins a series of tshirts for each 100th milestone event celebrated by Mountlucas parkrun.
"I'm looking forward to seeing the participants wear them with pride in the weeks, months and years ahead!"
There were further celebrations as two participants achieved a milestone on the day. Ciarán Groome completed his 50th parkrun, while Olivia Lernihan completed her 100th parkrun. Congratulations to both Ciarán and Olivia.
