After-work fun run to raise vital funds for well-loved Castletroy-based charity

After-work fun run to raise vital funds for well-loved Castletroy-based charity

AN INVITATION has been issued to the local business community to take part in an after-work fun run for a very good cause.

At 6.30pm next Thursday, April 11, a five-kilometre run will take place.

Organised by city centre financial firm Metis Ireland, it will kick off from the Clayton Hotel at Steamboat Quay.

All money raised will go to Cliona’s which provides financial support to families who are caring for a seriously sick child.

The fun-run is the brainchild of Ronan Qually, a private client manager at Metis.

He said: “I lived and worked up in Dublin at the Central Bank and there were often 5k runs on during the week that big companies organised. Besides the Great Limerick Run - which is fantastic - there is no other event like it in the city.”

Cliona’s is the partner charity of Metis, but Ronan hopes people working in companies across the city attend the event.

A €20 entry fee will get an event T-shirt for the first 100 people registered, while all proceeds will go to Cliona’s which is based in Castletroy.

“It’ll be great to get the business community together in Limerick to support a great charity. It's on a Thursday after work. So I’d hope you finish work, you go down with a few colleagues and enjoy a fun run. It's nothing too serious, and afterwards, we'll have a bit of food and a few drinks in the hotel, which will allow a bit of networking,” Ronan added.

“We’ve been involved with Cliona’s for the last number of years. They’ve been getting bigger and bigger but the amount of money they raise sadly isn’t getting bigger and bigger at the same time. They’ve helped out so many people. As of September 2023, they've helped out 1,372 families,” he said.

“It's for the little things - covering the cost of petrol, going up to a hotel for a couple of nights or having to take a week off work at short notice. The charity needs the money so much, so when the opportunity came to raise money for them, I thought the business community of Limerick could come together and help out as much as possible,” Ronan concluded.
