Dianne Frew gifts a custom piece to inspire others to attend routine screenings

A local artist is turning her personal health battle into a message of hope and vigilance for women across the North West by donating a special piece of her work to Derry's Altnagelvin Hospital.

Dianne Frew gifted the creation to the Western Health & Social Care Trust (Western Trust) Breast Screening Unit to praise the exceptional care she received from her very first mammogram booking, hoping the display will inspire others to prioritize early detection.

Dianne said: “To the absolutely amazing Doctors and Nurses at Altnagelvin Screening Unit thank you for all your help and care during my recent treatment, from my first phonecall to book the mammogram right through to attending the Breast Screening Unit, you have all been fantastic.

“I have nothing but praise for you all. I'm hoping through my art to spread the importance of screening from the bottom of my heart thank you!”

Karen McAteer, Breast Care Nurse Specialist Team Lead said: “Thank you so much Dianne for your kindness and generosity in donating your beautiful artwork which we will display in our Breast Screening Unit.

“You are a wonderful advocate to our service and your artwork provides a simple but powerful message that checking your breasts, attending breast screening appointments and early detection can make a huge difference.”

Karen added: “If you are concerned about changes to your breasts, please contact your GP.”
