A man currently on bail for 17 drug related offences and who is not allowed to have a mobile phone rang police on a mobile when he breached his curfew Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.

The man who has been granted anonymity due to the nature of his charges appeared today for breaching his bail and faced four more charges of possessing class A and C drugs on March 24.

A police officer connected the accused to the charges and opposed bail.

He told the court that police received a 999 call from the defendant who told them he had left his address to let a dog out and then began getting calls from G4S for breaching his curfew.

Once the man called police it was realised he was not allowed a mobile phone so police attended.

At the man's address police found 261 white tablets and other drugs.

They also found two mobile phones, a laptop and a tablet all in reach of the bail conditions prohibiting Internet enabled devices.

The man said that the tablets were for personal use and said they were a mixture of Diazepam and sleeping pills.

Bail was opposed due to the risk of him breaching his conditions.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client claimed that the devices belonged to his sister and were not his.

He said the man claimed he had deal bags to divide up his medication.

District Judge Barney McElholm said that the man was 'completely unsuitable' for bail and remanded him in custody to appear again on April 4.
