Former Western Meats site "lying idle" - McGowan

Cllr Sean McGowan has proposed that the Goodman Group be contacted to seek their comments on their intentions to bring the land at the old meat plant in Dromod, formerly Western Meats, “back into beneficial economic use for the area.”
Cllr McGowan, speaking at the latest Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district meeting on Monday said the lands in Dromod “which gave great employment there for generations” remain unused.
He said that it has been “lying idle since the site was acquired by the Goodman Group” for the past twenty years and asked that the council contact the company to ascertain what their plans are for the lands.
He said that Dromod is a “popular and busy village” and that he felt that it would be “an ideal development for job enterprise; bringing jobs back to the village.”
His motion was supported by his fellow members.
