Former Meath and Antrim manager, Andy McEntee is set to become the next manager of the Longford senior football team on a three year term.
McEntee, who was part of the Monaghan management team this year alongside Gabriel Brannigan, takes over the reins from Mike Solan.
His appointment comes following the conclusion of an extensive selection process.

The committee put in place to find the next Longford Senior Football manager - Derek Fahy, Peter O’Reilly, Ciaran Walsh, Colm Murray, Cosmos Gilmore, Francis McNamee and Barry O’Farrell - made its recommendation to the Management and Finance Committee of the County Board on Saturday afternoon (October 24).
The Management Committee will, at the next County Board meeting, be recommending the appointment of Andy McEntee as the next manager of the Longford Senior Football Team on a three year term.
Andy has extensive high level club and intercounty experience, guiding Ballyboden St Enda’s to the All-Ireland Club title in 2016, before going on to manage his native Meath from 2016-2022, guiding the Royal county to promotion to Division One of the Allianz Football League as well as back-to-back Leinster Finals in 2018 & 2019.
He went on to manage the Antrim Senior Football team from 2022-2024 bringing the saffron to the Tailteann Cup Semi Finals in 2023 & 2024 before becoming part of the Monaghan backroom team last year that reached the Ulster Final and All Ireland quarter-final.
McEntee’s backroom team has yet to be finalised.

He takes over from Mayo’s Mike Solan who spent two years in charge of Longford. Solan has since been appointed as Offaly manager.
Meath native Andy McEntee will become Longford’s ninth county senior supremo since 2001 (the seventh from outside the county), with the previous eight being, Denis Connerton (two stints), Luke Dempsey (Westmeath), Glenn Ryan (Kildare), Jack Sheedy (Dublin), Padraic Davis, Billy O’Loughlin (Laois), Paddy Christie (Dublin) and Mike Solan (Mayo).
Longford GAA Chairperson Derek Fahy welcomed Andy’s nomination for the Senior Football Manager position and expressed his excitement for the future of the Senior Football Team.
He also expressed the hope that all clubs, members, supporters and players will give their full support to the new management team.
