Some homes in Mayo will have to wait until approximately 8pm tonight to have power restored while areas of Erris have suffered a water outage

ESB crews are having to deal with treacherous weather conditions this afternoon as they try and restore power to homes that lost their electricity during Storm Boelo.

The Orange Weather wind warning for Mayo ended at 9am this morning but weather conditions across the county remain wet and very windy.

The ESB stated on their Power Checks website: “We're assessing the damage to the electricity network caused by Storm Boelo.

“We'll provide updates on the estimated restoration times as soon as crews have evaluated impacted areas. Thank you for your understanding.”

Approximately 4,000 homes across Mayo lost power during Storm Boelo but the majority of those homes have been now reconnected.

However, some 300 homes remain with power, mainly in areas like Achill, Belmullet, Crossmolina, Castlebar and Charlestown. The Power Check website states that it may be 8pm before power will be restored in these areas.

Meanwhile, Uisce Éireann is working to restore normal water supply to homes and businesses in Erris following a power outage at the local water treatment plant overnight due to Storm Boelo. This has resulted in reduced treated water levels at the plant.

Customers in Erris and the surrounding areas may experience a loss of pressure or an interruption to supply as a result.

Uisce Éireann has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible. In the meantime, customers across the scheme are being asked to conserve water where possible while restoration works continue.

Uisce Éireann’s Operations Manager Colette Scahill said, “We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned interruption to supply and we thank customers for their support while our works continue. We are also asking customers to be mindful of their water usage and conserve water where possible to help maintain supplies across the scheme while we work to restore normal service.”
