Mary calls it a day in Claremorris

Prior to working in Claremorris, Mary was a member of the staff at The Grove in Tuam for seventeen years.
IT truly was the end of an era when Mary Tierney retired in recent days after close on 22 years on customer duty at Centra Supermarket in Claremorris. Mary, who hails from Rouse, Hollymount, joined the staff when the venture was operated by John Killeen and family from lower James Street.
Later years saw under the management of Raftery’s and it is under the management of Hegarty’s for the last few years. Prior to working in Claremorris, Mary was a member of the staff at The Grove in Tuam for seventeen years.
So many lovely tributes have been paid to Mary on her retirement. Bríd Clesham from Garrymore said: “Happy retirement, Mary. You gave a fantastic service over the years and you will be greatly missed. Wishing you good health, new adventures and lots of happiness as you enjoy your retirement!”
Margaret Brennan commented: “Best wishes, Mary, on your retirement. You were excellent at your work, helpful and knowledgeable. Good health for the future.”
Ollie Monaghan captured the essence of what a lot of people feel deep down in their hearts about appreciating the people who always make the effort to make us feel at home: “Best wishes, Mary. You are/were the only staff member there that knew people by name. Changing times!”
Mary was always ‘one of us’, a few words about the weather, Garrymore and Mayo football, or the news of the day. We wish her good health and all the best in the times ahead.
